First Rehearsal - Week 2

This week's work definitely gets an F. Fortunately, that's F for Footers, Forms, Foundation and, oddly enough, Flowers! Once the dust had settled on the excavation, the concrete crew was back to pour the footers for the house. With only the outline of the house mapped out in a hole 8 feet deep the house seemed very small. This is taken from the back left corner of the house (the garage is not visible).

Sometime over the weekend, a bouquet of red flowers mysteriously appeared in front
of the hole/house! Placed in mourning for the house that was? To welcome us to the neighborhood? Found by the excavator and placed in jest? I don't think we'll ever know, but we're leaving them there until they just as mysteriously disappear!

Once the foundation was dry they put in the forms to pour in the
foundation. The basement will have 9 foot ceilings and the top 2 feet are actually above ground. This allows for real windows in the basement and much less of a cave feeling! The forms help you visually get out of the hole and it is getting easier to imagine rooms within the outline. This picture is taken from the right front corner of the house. The large opening in the front will be the egress window from the basement bedroom. In the background you can see our neighbor's new house which is also built in the bungalow family.

We are very excited by how quickly things are moving along (and hopeful that this will always be the case)! This week will bring the waterproofing and backfill (more fascinating pictures to follow). They hope to be framing by the first full week in April! There is another house going up in the neighborhood that's about 2 weeks ahead of our schedule so it's fun to watch their progress and anticipate what's coming next at 918! I will be working on firming up decisions on cabinets and bath fixtures!
