Close Up!

This post is a little behind and therefore dated, but to keep things chronological, I'll tell you where we were when these photos were taken. Things are moving quickly and I need to keep up! We're pretty much under roof except for the garage and the exterior has been 'walled' up!

The peaks on either side of the house are built out and will have vertical siding and decorative corbels (brackets) below which should be a nice touch (and one we didn't realize was even in the plans until they built it!!). Conor's window is covered up in this picture.

Here's the stairwell from the top landing. The window is also covered but will be great as it lets a lot of light into the stairwell and the mudroom. The ceiling above will have the sloping roof so common in bungalow style houses and that I just love. The banisters will be half walls and not railings. Since the stairways are tucked into the back of the house, we didn't want to spend money making them showpieces.

This is my kitchen. I met with Bunny last week. She took the final measurements and marked the layout on the floor. We made some minor adjustments to accommodate trim widths etc. The upper cabinets between the window and the door are configured to accommodate Mom's knobs. For those of you who didn't hear about my first kitchen remodel, I had 4 little spice drawers with knobs in memory of mom. Of course I took them with me. They are a bathtub, a book, a cottage and a coffee cup. Finding a fitting spot for those knobs was key in our design discussions! The plywood on the floor is my island. It went from a large two level island to a slightly smaller one level island that I think will fit the space and the scale of the house a little better. It will have 3 stools around it and plenty of room for Brian and his newspaper!

So much has been happening and I've got more pictures to upload. I will try and be completely up to date by Sunday night!
